PRISM is the interdisciplinary research group in the Faculty of Technology which focuses on the critical issues of Performance, Reliability and Integrity of Structures & Materials. It forms part of the submission to Unit of Assessment 28 in RAE 2008. It is based within the School of Engineering but links strongly and synergetically with the Industrial and Engineering Mathematics group in the School of Mathematics & Statistics. Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering research at Plymouth has been assessed by peer review in the UK-wide 2008 Research Assessment Exercise as being internationally excellent. Overall 80% of the work in the unit was either internationally excellent or internationally recognised and all of the research was judged as having national recognition. The Unit contains researchers with Internationally Leading 4* esteem and has access to facilities ranked as Internationally Leading. The Faculty of Technology maintains a strong upwards trajectory, built on collaborative interdisciplinary research, within in the national UK arena and internationally across Europe and beyond.
