Mission
The Centre for Teaching Mathematics is an educational research and resource development group of the University of Plymouth. It is an inter faculty group from the Faculty of Technology and the Faculty of Education, which draws together various people from across the University to provide a focus for common interests. We also welcome others interested in mathematics education as associate members.
The Centre is involved in educational research, which has a direct influence on the way that mathematics is taught in the classroom. The broad aims are to promote the teaching of mathematics in a way that will motivate students and make the subject interesting.
These aims are reflected as the main activities of the Centre, which cover a wide range of mathematics levels from primary through secondary to higher education :
- research into the teaching and learning of mathematics curriculum development
- developing new teaching resources and strategies to support the teaching of mathematics
- provision of continuing professional development courses for teachers
- provision of mathematical activities for groups of students.
