Brenda Strassfeld
Brenda is currently a member of the New York University faculty Steinhardt School of Education where she teaches preservice undergraduate and graduate elementary math methods courses and secondary preservice and inservice methods and curriculum and assessment courses. She serves on the student academic life committee, the teacher education committee, and the continuing professional education for teachers committee of the Dept of Teaching and learning at NYU. Brenda helps teachers in middle and elementary school implement the CMP and Investigations curricula respectively in my role as a staff developer for district 2 in Manhattan.
Brenda also serves as a consultant staff developer in Manhattan community school district 2. She has presented at the Joint Meeting of the MAA and AMS in January on Developing a Deeper Understanding of the Division of Fractions. Brenda decided to enroll with the Centre for Teaching Mathematics to study for her Ph.D. after meeting Susan Picker, another New Yorker who had just completed her Ph.D. through the Centre. She has just started her research and her interests include the attitudes and beliefs of teachers and students in the learning and teaching of mathematics.
