Portland Square - 28th August 2001.
Overview.

Here's a general view of the site, as seen from the Davy Building. You can see that the first couple of floor planks for Building C have been lifted into position; the ground floor of the frame of Building B is rapidly taking shape.

30th August 2001.
Building A:

One of the portal frame sections being lifted onto site.

Two of the biggest bits of steel frame in the whole project arrived on site today; the two sections bolt together to form the main portal frame at the heart of Building A.

One of the two joints between the halves of the shear frame.

This photograph shows one of the two bolted connections which lock the two halves of the portal frame together. The flanges of the beams shown here are 50mm thick; the nuts for the bolts are 85mm AF.

Building C:

Column bases have now been grouted.

Work around Building C continues; here you can see that the column bases have now been grouted up.

Precast concrete floor planks.

The floors will be formed from precast concrete planks supplied by Bison; these planks weigh over 4 tonnes each.
