Portland Square - 31st July 2001
This series of pictures shows the assembly of the first of two tower cranes to go on the site.
Liftling crane cab and winch into position.

11:00am - The vertical tower has already been constructed; this picture shows the crane's control cabin and winding machinery being lifted towards the top of the tower by a massive mobile crane.

Jib in position (almost).

The jib has now been attached to the rest of the tower but it is still being supported by the mobile crane; the two tie bars which link the jib to the counterbalance have just being fitted.

Almost finished.

4:30pm - Almost finished: the jib is about to be disconnected from the mobile crane; this just leaves the counterbalance weights to be fitted and the rigging of the lifting hook to be done.

The crane was assembled and tested within 14 hours of arriving on site.
