Portland Square - 31st August 2001.
Building C:
Here's the latest view of Building C; more of the floor beams have been lifted into position. You can also begin to see the position (and scale) of the central west-facing atrium.
Buildings A and B:
Here's a view of the southern end of the site. All of the concrete foundations for the three steel frames have now been poured. Work started today on erecting the structural frame for Building A - you can see that some of the columns are already up.

Building A:
One of the continuing headaches on the site is finding space for storage of materials; here are some of the first sections of the steel frame for Building A. The two lines of rebars mark the future position of a small concrete retaining wall which will form part of the north wall of Building A - note the temporary safety caps on the ends of the rebars.
![]() This picture shows the main shear frame for Building A, ready to be lifted into position. You can clearly see the four threaded holes in the base plate of the main column; these enable the frame to be bolted to its bearing pads.
The portal frame was lifted into place with a mobile crane.
You might be able to get some idea of the size of the portal frame from this picture.
One of the site's tower cranes was then used to position other sections of the framework to prop the main portal frame; once these beams were in place the mobile crane could be de-rigged. All of the steel shown in the foreground was erected in one day.
