| Research My research interests are in Structural Dynamics. This involves studying the dynamic performance of bridges and buildings to see how they react to vibrational loadings. Often we can find out a lot more about such structures by monitoring the vibrations. Natural frequencies, dynamic deflected shapes and the amount of damping yield valuable information about the structures. Under high dynamic loading the results show how the structures perform in service. A large shaker has been developed which sits on the structure and moves it around (pictured below). Knowing the frequency input as well as the force yields even more data on the structure. This can then be used to check out the analytical models of the structure developed.
