Fundamental to the MBA research has been the development of a survey to track changes in readiness to change attitudes, as a change programme progresses. Specifically, a survey was run before and just after each 'change' ('Awayday') event. In the survey three contributory attitudinal factors are identified:
· Personal readiness to change
· Personal motivation (i.e., allowing for change)
· The organisations capacity for change
Confidence as to the validity of the survey has been gained by a number of methods:-
· an external trial and assessment by the manager of another University engineering department
· research into questionnaire design and actual questionnaires used in similar circumstances and domains
· personal assessment, using management tools, against the known environment
· comparison of results with focus group meeting perceptions
The author offers an analysis service for organisations wishing to use the questionnaire. The survey can be delivered via paper, email, Question Mark(TM) or web based. The questionnaire takes under five minutes to complete and is based on 22/24 brief questions.
