Mathematics Support Materials

INSTRUCTIONS

Using the mathematics support materials is very simple since the only instruction really needed is that all the links are in green. There are a few basic types of links: links connecting exercises to their solutions; links for the solution to short quizzes; links for longer quizzes which provide scores and give correct solutions. There are also links in the tables of contents.

Let's look at an example of the first two types of links. Here we have an exercise containing four questions and also a short multiple choice quiz:

To check your solutions to questions like Exercise 1.7 you can click on the green coloured numbers.

Clicking on 1. takes you to the page with the solution for this part. This is displayed below:
test2.gif (53274 bytes)

Clicking on the green square takes you back to the original page!

The Quiz works in a simiilar way, but now we have a choice of answers. After attempting the question click on the letter of the answer which you think is correct. If you are right then this is displayed on screen together with a link to the solution to the problem. If an incorrect answer is chosen, then this will be displayed on screen. After an incorrect choice the screen looks like:
test1a.gif (58785 bytes)

If you click on OK, then you can attempt the question again. A similar screen appears after the correct choice but clicking on the OK this time links to a solution.

Our final example is of a longer quiz:
test3.gif (57091 bytes)

First work out the answers yourself to these questions. Next click on Begin Quiz and then click on the letter of your choice for each of the questions. Finally click on End Quiz and your total will appear in the box marked Score. By using the mouse to click on the Correct button, your answers will be marked and the correct answers given.

That's all folks!
