The applet below uses relaxation to iteratively solve simultaneous linear equations in the form AX = B.

The suggested 'over relaxation' factor of 1.5 works well in many cases and less than 50 iterations may well give acceptable convergence. Where over relaxation does not produce convergence, under relaxation (factor less than 1) may be tried and may often work, but hundreds of iterations may be needed. The progress of the iteration is shown in the text area at the bottom right of the applet.
