ACMC/SAMPE Conference on Marine Composites

Venue

Plymouth is an attractive city situated on Plymouth Sound which is one of the largest natural bays on the South Coast of England. The city has a long history with especial interest during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I when Drake and other notable sea captains sailed from the city. It was also a point of departure for the Mayflower sailing to America with the early settlers.

Plymouth City Airport is served by direct British Airways flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Newcastle, Glasgow and Aberdeen and direct Air Wales flights to Cork and Dublin. Plymouth is served by Great Western Trains service from London Paddington running hourly during the day (fastest journey time is three hours) and regular Virgin XC cross-country trains from Scotland, the North and Midlands via Bristol. There are regular ferry sailings by Brittany Ferries to Roscoff (France) and Santander (Spain).

Maps are available elsewhere on this web site.

Climate

During September the normal temperature in Plymouth is 15-25°C during the day and may drop to 10°C during the night. In the event of rain, delegates are advised that raincoats are perhaps of more value than umbrellas as the location is susceptible to gusty winds.
