Information Technology (IT) includes: Computer familiarisation, wordprocessing, use of spreadsheets and the world wide web.

Numeracy includes: evaluation of numeric values to solve problems or to synthesise designs using appropriate techniques.

Independent Learning (personal skills) includes: developing bibliographic, library and information retrieval skills. Developing time management skills and methodologies for tackling problems and assignments.

Professional includes: developing awareness of the requirements of professional engineers to act in a responsible and ethical manner with regards to such matters as the environment and safety. Developing professional judgement when making decisions on the basis of incomplete information.
