Q1 A beam is supported and loaded as shown in the diagram below.
i) Determine the bending moment and vertical reaction at end 'A'.
ii) Write down / derive equations for the bending moment in sections A - B, B - C and
C - D of the beam.
iii) Determine the deflection at point B in terms of E and I.
Q2 A beam is 8.5 m long and built in at both ends. It carries a downwards load of 4kN 2m from
the left hand end and 8kN 1.5m from the right hand end.
i) Determine equation(s) for the deflection of the beam.
ii) Determine the deflections at the points where the 2 loads are applied.
