a range of machines for tension/compression, torsion, fatigue and creep:
- Instron 8501 servohydraulic 100 kN dynamic
- Instron MDS 666C high temperature chamber
- Instron high temperature 4-point bend rig
- Instron 1175 screw-driven 100 kN universal
All our machines are calibrated and accredited by UKAS.

The University of Plymouth also has a unique range of electron
microscopes, shared by biologists, geologists and materials engineers. The suite of
instruments comprises two transmission and three scanning microscopes:
- JEM 2000 FX 200 kV, with X-ray microanalysis, EELS and EDX
- JEM 1200 EXII 120kV
- JSM 6100 with X-ray spectral analyser
- JSM 5300
- JSM 5200
The University's School of Biological Sciences houses a Quantimet
570 image analyser, which is used for composite microstructural investigations. |
