The IBL sound files are in NIST format and can be played by certain players.
If you type on a command line >more filename.wav you will see the NIST header of the file.
This is the DARPA Speech Community format

Using SOX (link) you can convert the files in a standard wav format , or any other format of your choice.
e.g. by typing on a command line >sox filename.wav test.wav your file is converted to standard wav file.
